Besides beautiful beaches, delicious food and beautiful authentic places, the Algarve is known for something else, golf! What makes it so attractive to play golf here? The climate is very pleasant. When it is wet and cold in the Netherlands, it is good to stay in the south of Portugal. Below I discuss some beautiful golfcourses.
Dom Pedro Old Course - 8.2 on Leadingcourses.com - Vilamoura
Located in the heart of Vilamoura, the Old Courses Golf Club was one of the first landscaped courses in the region. The course is only a 20 min. drive from Faro airport, and is surrounded by pine trees and set out over a gently sloping terrain. You can see on the golfcourse that this is one of the oldest courses in the Algarve. The course is beautifully mature and is one of the best course designs in the Algarve. It is one of those jobs that you will surely remember.
Espiche Golf - 8.1 on Leadingcourses.com - Lagos
Espiche Golf is about 15 minutes drive from Lagos, in a nature reserve. The course is beautifully integrated into the natural environment, offering a unique and authentic Algarve experience. The criticism of the course was in the beginning that it would be too difficult due to many blind shots and that the ball was immediately lost off the fairway. Much attention has been paid to this and the course is now easy to play for golfers of all levels. The track is not too long, but very technical. We think the fact that you really walk in the middle of nature is a big plus. The clubhouse centrally located on a hill in the middle of the complex is a beautiful eye-catcher and a perfect place for a beer after the round.
Quinta do Lago - 8.6 on Leadingcourses.com
Quinta do Lago is an exclusive golf resort, set in nearly 2000 hectares of countryside and pine forests, bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The course has been around since 1972, and has since won multiple awards. The resort is only a 20 min. Drive from Faro airport and consists of 3 18-hole golfcourses.
Vale do Lobo - 8.3 on Leadingcourses.com
Vale do Lobo's 2 18-hole golfcourses were designed by Sir Henry Cotton and Rocky Roquemore. They are challenging golfcourses that can be played all year round. The rolling fairways run past olive, orange and pine trees. On the Royal Course you will find the most photographed hole in Europe: hole 16, a par 3 of 218 meters over 3 ravines!
Monte Rei Golf & Country Club - 9.2 on Leadingcourses.com
The most beautiful golfcourse in the Algarve. This golfcourse was designed by Jank Nicklaus and is located in the Eastern Algarve. The unique thing about this golfcourse is that almost every hole has its own landscape, you only see the hole you are playing around you. In addition, the maintenance is of the highest quality and the service and facilities at Monte Rei are of the highest standard. The track has a price tag but you get something for that too. The green fee price already includes the use of the driving range and balls, a shared buggy and water.
Palmares Ocean Living & Golf - 8.0 on Leadingcourses.com
The course consists of 27 holes, three loops of 9 holes (Praia, Lagos & Alvor). As far as we are concerned, the Alvor / Lagos combination is the best combination. Beautiful golfcourse that is also very fair. On a good day you can get good scores here and on a bad day you will be punished. The greens here are very good and fast. In recent years due to changes in management and a lot of attention to the construction of houses, there has sometimes been a period less due to renovations to the club house and the facilities around it, but it will be after the recent opening of the club house and the first delivery of beautiful houses. in the coming years it will only get better and become one of the most exclusive golfcourses in the Algarve.
