The Algarve is of course known for its beautiful beaches, high cliffs and clear blue water. The area is perfect for a wonderful day at the beach, but it is also a true paradise for hikers. There are many beautiful beaches in the Algarve, I will explain some recommendations to visit below.
Praia da Marinha - Lagoa
When you picture a beach in the Algarve, you probably picture a beach like Praia da Marinha. The water is blue, the beach is golden, and there are beautiful rocks and cliffs in the background. It is possible to take a nice walk on the cliffs and follow a flight of stairs down to reach the beach. Mind you, the beach is one of the most popular in the area and it can be very busy here. It is advisable to go here either in the morning or late afternoon.
Praia da Falésia - Albufeira
One of the most beautiful beaches is Praia da Falésia. This beach is very long and surrounded by beautiful rocks in red, copper and gold tones. Especially at sunset, the light on the rocks is a true spectacle of colors. It is a fairly popular beach with good facilities.
Praia do Amado - Carrapateira
Praia do Amado is an elongated sandy beach surrounded by rocks and hills. It is certainly advisable to take a long beach walk here, there is so much to see! The beach is also a little bit less known than some of the other beaches on this list, making it a bit less crowded. Are you interested in surfing? Then this beach is highly recommended. Several surfing competitions are also held annually.
Praia do Camilo – Lagos
The photogenic beach of Praia do Camilo is incredibly beautiful. It is not that big, and surrounded by rocks and cliffs. There is a staircase down 200 steps, but it will be worth it! It is possible to walk to another beach through a tunnel in the rocks. Close to the beach is Ponta da Piedade, an impressive rock formation and sea-weathered caves. These are best shown during a boat trip that depart from several beaches in the area.
Praia da Oura – Albufeira
The lovely beach of Praia da Oura is slightly different from the previously discussed beaches. Here you will not find large cliffs in the background, but rocks and arches where you can walk under. It is a small beach with calm sea. From the beach you can walk to the bars and restaurants of Albufeira.
Praia de Benagil – Benagil
One of the beaches that should not be missing in this list is Praia de Benagil. It is a special beach, located in a cave. A good way to get here is on a boat trip. In addition to this unique beach, there is also a beach at Benagil itself. If you are lucky you will see the fishermen transferring the fish to take to the restaurants. Of course, there are many more beautiful beaches in the Algarve, during a road trip along the coast you can stop wherever you want, have fun!
